After the completion of several summer construction projects, new and returning students as well as faculty members found a new and improved campus; after much work and dedication, Manhattan College is once again ready to accommodate the student body with great possibilities.

Early this summer, Yeshiva University decided to consolidate all Independent Housing Program (IHP) apartments into 475 West 186th Street. The rather unanticipated move has resulted in the loss of sixteen apartments from the Independent Housing Program - fifteen from 90 Laurel Hill Terrace and one from 480 W 187th Street.

St. John's received nearly 200 pints of blood in donations from the first two blood drives of the semester, paving the way for a third, originally unplanned blood drive scheduled for Wednesday.

The latest event, slated to occur from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in front of Council Hall, has been brought on due to the success of the two day back-to-school blood drives on August 28 and 29 and a blood shortage, said Kevin Ryan, associate for the Office of Community Relations.

The idea of a smoking ban on campus has evoked a mixed reaction recently with St. John's students. These reactions come on the heel of a decision to ban smoking on campus at Montogomery College in Maryland last week.

According to CNN.com, the American Nonsmokers' Rights Foundation listed approximately 60 college campuses across the nation like Montgomery that have smoke free policies on their campus.
