There's little doubt that UConn football is headed in the right direction.

From Israel to America, from Long Beach to Long Island, from Brookline to the Main Line, many an undergraduate spent their summer tucked away in some cramped cubicle, photocopying, filing, and fetching coffee. Somehow, amid the resume building and networking, they missed the summer; catching mere glimpses of its grandeur on their way to and from the workplace and, for the lucky few, through high-rise office windows.

New Season, New Coach, New Hopes

The Commentator, Yeshiva University, NY

Simply put, last season was a disaster. The soccer team won only one game, and gave up forty-nine more goals than they scored. While no one was expecting a Manchester United-like season, no one was expecting a one and fifteen season mimicking the Miami Dolphins of football either.

"Disheartening" and "disappointment," are the words used by head coach Becca Kohli and captain Megan Sciascia to describe the 2007 season for Quinnipiac University Field Hockey.

To understand how far the Bobcats have come from last season, look no further than the preseason coaches' poll rankings.

Silver Lining for the Pinstripes

If only one phrase could describe the 2008 Yankees, it would probably be "unbelievably frustrating". They win two, they lose two. They win five out of six, they lose three out of four. They split with the Angels but finish the series strong, and then they get swept a week later.

On December 3rd 2007, I published an article titled "Say Yes to Santana." Granted it wasn't the best piece of journalism, however the message was clear and I hate to say I told you so, but... well... I told you so. Of course you can jump on Hank Steinbrenner's band wagon and blame the lost season on injuries, but that's the easy way out.

One more win. That's all West Virginia needed.

In what was supposed to be nothing more than a small speed bump in West Virginia's open highway to the BCS Championship game, the Mountaineers wandered off their home field in utter shock and complete dejection.

EAST HARTFORD - The Huskies got what they wanted.

All preseason, head coach Randy Edsall talked about starting fast, in part to bounce back from a disappointing end to an otherwise historic 2007 season.

Riding Donald Brown's four touchdowns - all of which came in the first half - the Huskies claimed a 35-3 victory Thursday before 37,583 at Rentschler Field.

Recruitment rarely bolsters starting lineups instantly. Coaches draft players with the realistic goal of improving their teams in the long run.

However, this year's incoming class is an exception. Several quality soccer and field hockey recruits with solid backgrounds will make an immediate impact in game-play situations.

When last school year came to a close, it marked the beginning of a fresh start for the Red Storm men's basketball team.

After a very hectic off-season, where both junior Larry Wright (Oakland University) and sophomore Michael Cavataio (Holy Cross University) announced they wouldn't be returning for the upcoming year, the team needed to have a productive summer.

After falling just short of a MAAC Tournament berth last season, the women's soccer team is out to prove their worth this year. Last year despite tying Loyola, the MAAC Champion, and beating Marist, who finished second in the MAAC, the team still missed the playoffs due to their overall conference record.
